Author Day
Author day occurs once a year at Belmont Hills. An author and/or illustrator visits the school for an entire day, providing multiple assemblies for the variety of age groups available in our school. He or she supplies information, advice, and knowledge on their work and supports reading, writing, and drawing to all students.
2021 Author TBD

Duane Abel |
Our 2018 in school author visit was with cartoonist, Duane Abel. Duane came to Belmont with an amazing presentation that completely captured our audiences! His message "Draw Your Destiny" was inspiring and sent a message to all of our students the importance of school, their education, and why reading is imperative. Duane drew MANY cartoons for a selection of students and sent signed books for those who purchased them. He was awesome to say the least!

Lauren Tarshis |
In 2018 we were lucky enough to welcome two authors to Belmont! I Survived author, Lauren Tarshis, was able to visit us via Skype, an online application that allowed us to see her on our interactive board from her hometown! Since our library space was limited we held a raffle, which included a selection of students to join us in meeting and getting to know Lauren. The students enjoyed listening to Lauren's advice, stories, and especially on why she chose to write each book in the I Survived series. Lauren patiently answered many questions and this was definitely an incredible experience that Belmont will never forget!

Ricky Dean & Erica Minton |
Our 2017 author, Ricky Dean, brought along a special treat to Belmont... his illustrator Erica Minton! Ricky is a rather new author and shared with our students his life story, the types of books he writes, and his work with Erica. Students who purchased their book received a book mark & magnet to go with it and teachers loved that their books were not only enjoyable but informative!
|
Lee Harper |
Our 2016 author, Lee Harper, turned our Belmont students into illustrators. The students not only learned about Lee's life and work but they were taught how to draw their own illustrations during the assemblies. A selected group of students enjoyed lunch with the author after winning a school wide scavenger hunt. Lee signed books for those who purchased them and enjoyed visiting Belmont Hills.

Matt Phelan |
Our 2015 author, Matt Phelan, was incredible! The students enjoyed his graphic novels and the assemblies that matched his work. Matt was able to share with us his passion, his talent, and why he creates graphic novels. He signed books for those who purchased them and included a message and sketch in each one. Belmont enjoyed his visit thoroughly.
